The town of Poundbury, on the fringes of Dorchester (in Dorset County, England), is an idealistic town headed by Prince Charles.  The idea is that this town will provide work for the 6000 residents who are expected to live there after the 25 year building project is over. The building is influenced by the “New Urbanism” that has sprung up in America – a place where mixed income housing, retail and walkability are all included.  With that thought in mind, the hope is the residents will walk and ride bikes more.  However, a study at the end of the first phase tells a different story, that car usage is higher in Poundbury than in the surrounding area.
